Interestingly, this tiny freshwater crustacean can survive even under thick ice in extremely cold water, making it a treat for fish all year round.
Despite the name “water flea”, Daphnia are not actual fleas — they are small crustaceans that move by jerking and floating through the water, resembling real fleas in motion.
Adult Daphnia range from 0.2 to 3 mm in size and belong to the smallest type of crustaceans (Crustacea).
Rich in protein, they also contain minerals, vitamins, fibers, and essential nutrients.
Daphnia play an important role in fish metabolism and digestion, which is why they’re also used as food for aquarium fish to promote health and growth.
They are truly unique — over one-third of their genes are found in no other organism, making them a one-of-a-kind natural attractor for our bait recipes.
Carp are naturally exposed to Daphnia from a young age, and experts consider them the ideal food source for juvenile fish — a true superfood.
Their intense, distinctive aroma is unforgettable to carp, triggering a powerful feeding response that keeps them searching tirelessly.
When Daphnia are present, carp will explore stones, gravel, plants, and shoreline areas, ignoring other food sources completely.
This explains why, at certain times, anglers may find their boilies untouched — not because “the carp aren’t feeding”, but because they’re busy hunting for Daphnia.
Masterbih Whole Dried Daphnia has been carefully tested for ideal dosage and effectiveness in baits — potent enough to attract fish, yet balanced to avoid suspicion.
Recommended dosage: from 2%, maximum 5% (50 g per 1 kg base mix).
Keep in mind that Daphnia are very light — 30 g of Daphnia look volumetrically similar to 150–200 g of fish meal.
